33 cl bottle, $3.99 at Whole Foods, Hinsdale. Poured into a teacup. Hazy, brownish-yellow pour, but with a good head (I started in a sampler glass to check appearance). Smell has some ginger, but is also a bit acrid. Taste settles down to something more like a spicy Belgian style ale. Some bubblegum esters. Further in, it does resolve into somewhat pleasant beer with prickly bubbles of noble hops. Phenolic back-burn is kind of a distraction, but this is still okay and different. So this "ineeka" is apparently a tea cooperative with farms in the Himalaya’s etc., and its website doesn’t even mention the beer. But it was covered in the Tribune last year, which notes ineeka is actually based in Chicago, and the beer in contract-brewed in the Netherlands. Then shipped here in glass bottles. Sounds VERY eco-friendly. Still, as an organic beer, this is interesting just for being a bit tastier than others I’ve had. Though considering the paperwork you gotta go through to brew in this town, it was probably more efficient to make it overseas.
