Bottle sampled at the Top of the Hops Beer Festival, Charlottesville, VA, 9/11/10. It was nice to see this as they only brought one bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, nutty notes, minty hops and faint fruity notes in the finish. The taste is chocolate, minty hops, nutty notes and caramel. Full bodied. Very nice beer.

Nice beer, really big on the chocolate which was all over the nose, and also in the flavor but there complemented with a light roastiness. Malts are smooth and rounded, not too sweet, with actually a semi-dry chocolate finish.

From a growler provided by Jamie the brewer at the Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. Pours black with a thin tan head. Full roasty malt aroma comes easily, bringing bitter chocolate and a touch of coffee with it. Flavorwise, the bitterness keeps the sweetness in check, letting all of the roast malts and chocolate work the tongue with a sweetness that is comparable to unsweetened chocolate. Smooth and creamy. Hides the alcohol very well. Very enjoyable brew.
