Alaskan Baltic Porter is a deep, dense beer with an intricate array of aromas and flavors derived from substantial amounts of specialty malts, dark black cherries and whole gourmet vanilla beans. In order for the British to export their dark ales to the northern ports of the Baltic Sea, they were brewed stronger than normal to endure the long voyage. The extra warmth was welcomed in these countries with harsh winters and a taste for the robust, attributes that also fare well in Alaska.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nearly opaque black/dark brown color with a one finger tan head that has fair retention. The aroma is mild with blackened grains, figs and a bit of dark chocolate. The taste is bitter chocolate in the forefront followed by burnt grains and dark fruits. The palate is full and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes medium in duration with lingering bitter chocolates. Overall: Decent--Will buy again.

650ml bottle. Jet black colour with slightly late awakening, small to average, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty and fruity aroma, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, morello, a touch of vanilla, plum, blue grapes, smoky overtones. Taste is sweet-ish and bitter, roasty, chocolately dark malty and fruity, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, cocoa, morello, plum, plum butter, some milk chocolate, a touch of vanilla, smoky overtones, bitter hoppy counterpart; lingering, sweet-ish, chocolately and fruity finish, well hidden alcohol, a subtle warming effect is perceptible though. Watery and minimally creamy texture, smooth and soft, minimally repellant, metallic palate, prickly carbonation. Well balanced, harmonious and integrated, dangerously drinkable. Very good.

65 cl bottle @ Omenapuutarha. Vintage 2017(?), BBE 2025 Aroma has cocoa, some licorice and toastiness. Flavour has salty licorice, some soy sauce, cocoa and alcohol. Pleasant, sugary sweetness takes over at the middle of the glass and drinkability suffers.

Taster at the Brass Tap. Pours black, with a very small, beige head. The nose is sweet cherries, dates, black bread, bittersweet chocolate, and light ginger. Very sweet, with no bitterness for balance. Medium to heavy body, with a silky, oily, and lightly acidic mouthfeel. This is a smooth, enjoyable, and malt forward porter. Very aromatic, but not terribly balanced.
