Thanks Dak! The little squat bottle pours with a nice glowing amber to ruby red body that supports a light tan head. The aroma offers up thick sweet malts, molasses, chocolate, a dash of minerals and a vanilla flavored cookie. Interesting. The taste is pretty smooth and rich with thick malts, some molasses, ginger spice and then a firm hop soapiness. It gets a bit minerally here and there too and an odd chocolate note is noticed into the finish. Tasty but kind of an odd brew.

330 ml bottle, vintage 2008, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 12.7%. Cloudy dark brown colour, large beige head. Sweetish malty aroma, notes of oak, alcohol and caramel. Warming mouthfeel. Malty flavour, oak and caramel again, but not too sweet for a barleywine. Also notes of dark dried fruits. Oaky and hoppy finish.

33cl bottle. Brown colour with a yellowish/beige head that quickly dissappears. Aroma is strong caramel, grapes and raisins with notes of ’Moscatel’ and ripe fruit. Flavotr is very similar as aroma. Sweet, not cloying, vinous, candy sugar, caramel and strongly alcoholic. The final is very sweet with a strong alcoholic sensation with a good duration.

Bottle. Hazy deep copper liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, toffee, caramel, sugar, port wine, toast, bread and dried fruit. Taste is low to medium sweet and low to medium bitter with notes of dried fruit, sweel alcohol and raw sugar. Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Really nice, complex.

Bottle at O’Connor’s, Uppsala July 2012. Hazy reddish/brown with a small head. Sweet aroma and taste of toffee, malt, syrup and some dried dark fruit. Big body on this one and not that much carbonation. Really a nice beer to sip. I am glad that I finally got to try it. Would love to have some bottles at home.

Tasted at Dark Lord Day 2011. Yes, I distinctly read "2008" from the label into my audio notes. Rarer than a Pliny, I’m guessing. Dark barley wine, very sweet malts. Solidly alcoholic. Hops were a little hard to find in the nose, but in the palate they show up, quite sturdy and bitter. That’s all the impressions I recorded, it was the end of a long day of drinking.

Bottled. Hazy mahogany colour. Heavy caramel aroma. Sweet with full body. Sticky, heavy butterscotch and caramel, sweet and warming with fairly soft mouthfeel. Oversized, but still not aggressive. Should improve with further aging.
