All of these are ancient and revered Belgian techniques. This unique Flemish sour brown ale is complex, tart with a touch of sweetness, lightly malty and gently hopped. Zuur is a unique blend created in collaboration between Brewery Ommegang and Brouwerij Liefmans

Druaght. Sour beer was sour. I am just not into these for whatever reason.

A reddish brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, nice fruity caramel malt with light acidity, ground cherries, light celery salts, nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light acidity, nice if a bit watery. Bottle at 2014 Ottawa Xmas gathering.

Bottle: Poured a Deep hazy reddish color ale with a nice medium size dark foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of tart and sour notes with light cherry and some easily identifiable oak notes. Taste is also dominated by tart and sour notes with light cherry notes with some oak notes. Taste is well balanced without much acidity and with some light residual sugar notes. Body is quite full with medium carbonation. Very enjoyable but I would take a Rodenbach Grand Cru over this one though.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, best before 6/4/2012. Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of tart cherry, green apple, raisin, cranberry, pear, brown sugar, toast, red wine vinegar, hay, straw, musty funk, light leather, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and fruity/funk yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lightly tart cherry, green apple, cranberry, raisin, pear, brown sugar, hay, straw, light clove, red wine, white vinegar, light leather, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lightly tart cherry, cranberry, green apple, raisin, plum, pear, brown sugar, red wine, white vinegar, hay, straw, light leather, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity/funky yeast flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and lightly slick/syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Flemish brown ale. All around good balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity/funky yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on with the light acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

Sampled from a 0.75l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. This is a blurry deep red one. Not much of a head here. It has a nice Flemmish nose with lots or sour red berries, some sugar, and a little bit of lemon acidity. The mouthfeel is light oily and it has a below average carbonation level. Flavors are lovely tart. Lots of red sour berries, more sugar and it ends with a woody finish. Really tasty stuff. 15.06.2013

750 ml bottle thanks to Dallas. Pours a dark brown color with a medium white head. A big sour cherry nose with brown malts, caramel. Very low sourness, sweet dusty malts, easygoing, finishes quite dry and some vinegar. Good.

750ml bottle - Pours dark amber with a two finger light tan head. The smell is of sour cherries and wild yeast funk. It tastes sour, fruity, tart, but also has a smooth sweetness to it. Very good brew.

Bottle on 12/27/2010 from River City Cellars. Clear reddish brown body with ruby highlights and a small creamy off-white head. Sweet cherry, fruit and light tart aroma. Tart fruit flavor, some dry grain, light metallic notes and a bit of cherry. Light body with moderately high carbonation.

Dratt at Dexters. Stained glass red-brown color. Thin, soapy off-white head. Funky sour aroma. Quite authentic, medium bodied, with lots of sourness and a mellow sweet undertone. Easy drinking, manages the tartness well. Delicate lemon-clove action. Light oak? Awesome beer.
