Bottle from Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle, Leeuwarden. Aroma is barnyard funk with oak, fruits, citrus, peach, grain, with a hint of grape/cognac. Flavour is medium sour. Body is medium. Nice Vat with a decent Geuze complexity, grain and oak, sour with a little sweetness. Another very succesful Boon Geuze.

(Bottle) Pale amber colour with brief, off-white head. Fruity, sourish nose with notes of apricots, grapefruit, white wine, funky yeast, hay and barnyard. Fruity, tart taste with pink grapefruit, lemon peel, apricots, hay, barnyard, white wine, a slight vanilla touch and a light bitterness in a tart finish. More than medium body, dry. Really tasty and complex, with tart fruit and lots of barnyard. Great beer!

Bottle at BBT 5/2022. Thin body, med-low carbonation. Med-high sourness, medium tartness. Assertive horse blanket and general funk. Also woody, and a very faint hint of cognac. Not great, not terrible, good classic lambic, with not much going on.

Bottle 0.375l from our archive, the eighth one for our ninth wedding anniversary. Cloudy, orange colored. AROMA- noble one, sour, funky, a bit sharp, leather, peach, some tropical fruit, some citrus. FLAVOR- neutral, lightly sour, lightly bitter, fruity again, herbal, sea buckthorn, touch of leather, touch of wooden barrel. Fuller bodied. Great.

375ml bottle pours a hazier orange, basically no head. Nose has cheesy funk, band aid, vanilla, sauternes or vermouth. Flavor has wood, grapefruit, funk, vermouth. Finishes full bodied, abrasiveness from the acid and carb.

Bottle at home. Two year old. Has a hazy amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma of barn yard, forest floor, gooseberries, spices, dried apricot, apple cider vinegar and hint of vanilla. Flavour of dried apricots, white bread, spices, vinegar and gooseberries. Has a slick and soft mouth feel, medium to full body and a light bitterness. Complex and rich gueuze. Fantastic.

Vertical tasting of VAT 91, VAT 92, VAT 108 and VAT 110. VAT 91 – slightly unclear golden body under a small white head. Nice funky aroma with citric fruit, apple cider and ripe apple with cellar notes. Many elements from a classic Geuze but has the more distinct sweet and sour taste from a unblended Lambic. VAT 92 – Same appearance as VAT 91 and much of the same flavors, a bit more on the fresh apple than ripe, some more citric fruit and hint of bitter citric zest. At the same time the overall impressive is slightly milder and more balanced than 91. Still, I prefer the 91 that I find with slightly more distinct flavors. VAT 108 – Sama appearance as VAT 91 but more lively carbonation and foamier. Aroma as more distinct cellar notes, taste is more acidic and all in all this taste closer to a regular Geuze than the others. Fresher expression, more complexity and smoother with more balance. Very nice and tasty. VAT 110 – Slightly darker golden body than the rest. Less fruity and more wood flavor than the others. The wood feels almost a bit harsh in aftertaste, assume it’s actually notes from the Cognac that might emphasize the taste of wood. Nice enough, but compared with the others this is the less preferred version.
