A smooth, creamy beer with hints of lemon and subtle blackcurrant and liquorice undertones. A sweet start and finish.

A clear dark reddish brown ale with a thick frothy brown head, very resilient. In mouth, nice dark fruits with caramel, butterscotch, a bit lighter than expected. In mouth, a smooth roasted caramel with light herbal licorice, molasses, nice.

Aroma: Blackcurrant, molasses and toasted bread mainly. Long lasting and complex nose. Appearance: Brown and clear. Average creamy head, moderately lasting, sticking good but no lacing. Taste: A woody attack with roasted notes. Texture is watery. We can feel wood and roasted malt accents; almost smoke. Finish is with slight notes of lemon. Flavors are mostly malty and finish slightly hoppy. and dry. Not a great beer but pleasant to drink.

Smells nutty with a little swampy malt. Pours mahogany with good creamy head and good lacing. Aroma pretty much of nut and a little roast malt. Taste is a little bitter with slick palate and average carbonation. Not bad. Bottle.

50cl bottle, BB 08/2013.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color ale with a medium light brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with some dry bitter notes. Taste is a mix between some medium dry roasted malt notes with light fruity ester. Body is about average with good carbonation. Interesting though lacking complexity or some subtlety are maybe just too subtle for me.

Bouteille 500ml.

Brown bottle from the LCBO with a best before date: 16 AUG 11. Was expecting a thick stout with a name like that, but no. Just a dark brown cola-looking with red highlights and quite see-through. The head was big, creamy, foamy, off-white, had decent retention and small amounts of lace. Tiny bubbles active carbonation. Again, was expecting roasted malts, but was more on the hop side of things. Sweet malt, kind of like brown sugars that were burnt a bit. Hints of molasses and vanilla. Medium-bodied and pretty fizzy. Some roasted malt comes out in the taste with notes of hop bitterness, coffee and butterscotch. Overall, pretty mild and thin. Decent drinkability but was not expecting the hop to take over the malt.

Cask at NWAF, 2011. Dark brown pour with a reddish tint, no head. Aromas of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, sweet spices and raisins. Flavours of vanilla, coffee, caramel, blackberries and damsons. Dried fruit in the finish. Classic old ale feel.

This ale poured a deep, dark red colour with a big, tan, foamy head. To the nose there are scents of coffee, caramel, chocolate with a little grass. First swig was smooth and rich with flavours of roasted malts to the point of coffee, a little cocoa and nuts. Finish was burnt and roasty with a little smoke and ripe fruit.
