Arkell's Best Bitter Beer, as it was originally known, was first brewed in 1910 and has been affectionately known as BBB or 3B by customers ever since. (One Swindon landlord will tell you that 'BBB' stands for "Big Boy's Beer"). Today, 3B is renowned by Britain's beer lovers as a superb, amber brew with a very distinctive taste and a sweet scent of malt beneath the hops. Pale malt makes up 88% of the dry ingredients along with 10% crystal malt. According to the 'Real Ale Drinker's Almanac', 3B has "delicate, beautifully balanced malt and hop with lingering dry finish and hint of nut"

9th Oct 2019. Cask pint in The Thomas Botfield (Telford Town Centre), on the first day of the Wetherspoon's Autumn Beer Festival. Looked good, hand-pulled into a UK pint straight glass. The body is bronze/chestnut brown, clear and clean; on top an off-white crown. Classic British Bitter aroma and taste; Malty front to the nose and taste, creeping hop bitterness gives balance. Proper 'old school' bitter.

Cask at GBBF 2019. Clear bronze color. Nose is citrus, pepper, caramel. Soft, malty, peppery hops. A very basic bitter. Decent enough.

Clear nutty color with a thick white head. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Caramel malty, herbal and bready flavor. Quite typical cask bitter.

Glowing copper coloured ale with a diminishing head. Itโs a smooth dry bitter with a medium bitterness. Some malts in its aroma.

Cask, one-third pint, GBBFโ11. Amber-copper body, bubbles at the surface. Plain malt-fruity aroma. Ditto taste profile with notes of apricot. Dry bitter ending. True to the style (London, 04.08.2011).

Can on the train to Penzance. Pours dark copper with a creamy beige head. Aroma is floral. Medium body. Flavor is floral over slightly roasted caramel. Maybe thatโs the nut. Finishes definitely dry and bitter.
