Pours deep brown with no bubbles. Light cherry and fruit leather smell, not too much alcohol. Some tartness in the nose, too. Taste offers some malt, aged as expected. Flavor has turned a little south, but I can pick out some wine, leather upholstery, and again some nice tartness. I'm so used to barrel aged impy stouts, so barleywines are less familiar. They do change more over time, hops might fade, etc. But that just makes each batch a new adventure.
Tasted like caramel flavored Vicks vaporub when I first opened it but as it warms up and airs out it's much better! Hop notes dominate still with a thin caramel finish. Thanks Andy K. !

Last of my cellared Bigfoots. Smell is way better than the taste. Smell has nice oxidation and Port like aroma.taste is bitter in a bad way
Update, August 7th 2025.
No foam but the smell and taste are SO much better. Caramel malt, port like taste and smell, some definite
bitterness. Leather, hint of nuts.

Sample during Blarney Wine Festival on 03/17/2012. Pours a clear dark amber color with a thin ivory white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Sparse patches of lace. Aroma of roast malt, caramel, vine fruit and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, vinous fruit and resiny hops. The finish is malty up front with a piney hop aftertaste. Solid Barley Wine overall after a few years of aging.
