The beer that started it all. Using 100% English Malt, with Bobek and Bramling Cross hops, this easy drinking best bitter is our tip of the hat to traditional British brewing.

Cask at Spoons in Eastbourne. Soy sauce nose. Caramel colour. Slight sweetness to it but still dry and cloy-soy sauce. Not sure I'd describe it as a best bitter to be honest....

440ml can (yes, I know this is the cask version rating page, but it's 4.2% ABV and obviously the same beer in principle. BBE November 2024, from Beers of Europe. Drank at home on 21st September 2024 during a mini-tasting-session with myself while Margie was out with friends. Poured robustly into a UK vase shaped pint glass. Slight misty body, deep amber in colour, off-white foam on top. Malty feel with a decent hop bitterness, woody, earthy and a bit of a throw back to traditional English Bitters. Liked it.

(Cask at Lyric, Soho, London, 22 May 2023) Amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy tan head. Malty, hoppy nose with dark bread, apricots and earthy hops. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of caramel, apricots, dark bread and a fairly balanced, but slightly sharp, resiny/earthy bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and refreshing. Quite nice.

Cask. Rich amber beer with a cream head. Light citrus aroma. Citrus flavor with bready malt. Medium bodied. Citrus and bready malt linger.

Handpull cask at the Sheffield Tap. Light brown and clear-ish with a small film of beige head. Woody, astringent aroma with bitter fruit. Tastes bittersweet, very astrigent, almost turpentiney. Orange and kumquat peel on the finish. Weird and not very good really.
