Vales is a bright Alsatian Pale Lager. Tantalizing zippy citrus and herbal meadow flower aromas leap from the glass on approach. A refined malty body offers structure for the hops to shine.

In process for over two months, we began by shepherding the grist of 100% Virginia grain through our special mash regime to enhance its bread meets biscuit character. The wort is introduced to a healthy dose of Alsatian hops, with plenty of time for ingredients to harmonize in horizontal tank.

Inspiration for this lager comes from two farming regions we hold dear. Both bordered by mountains to the west and rivers to the east. Separated by distance, the Virginian and Alsatian Vales remain connected through people approaching place with purpose.

This lager pays homage to these Vales, or valleys, with grain from fellow small farms in the Virginia Piedmont and hops grown by farmers we know from the Alsace region in France. The Alsatian agricultural area between the Vosges Mountains and Rhine River is a special one. Farmers there have been growing outstanding hops for centuries. Many farmers in our Piedmont region of Virginia, between the Appalachian Mountains and Potomac River, share this passion for produce from their place.

At the January 2026 DC Brewver gathering. 16oz can. Poured a clear golden color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was light grain, grassy. Light floral, with a bunch of grass. Very clean, super crisp. Very drinkable.

Pint at the brewery - lightly hazy gold - thick, frothy lace - nose is soft honey and rustic graininess - soft mouthfeel, creamy texture - soft herbs, honey, bread - rustic finish - it’s pretty solid.
