July 2007: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.0%. Very dark reddish brown colour, nearly black. Large tan head. Very nice aroma of chocolate (reminds me of the Norwegian "Kong Haakon Konfekt"), roasted malts and coffee. The flavour is roasty and fruity with a moderate acidity. Notes of coffee, chocolate, prunes and liquorice. Relatively light bodied, but nice.

7/6/2023. Cask at Waterworks Micropub, Rye. Pours clear close to black with a small off-white head. Aroma is ashy, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, hint of liquorice. Moderate sweetness and medium roasted bitterness. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Malty chocolate finish. Pretty decent.

Cask at the Harp - Covent Garden, London. Pours clear brown with a frothy tan head. The nose holds well toasted bread, light smoke and hints of chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor with rich smoke and bacon, light chocolate, some earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Great condition. Dynamic finish, pleasant smoked malts and bacon, burnt toast, light cocoa, charred wood, a bit of scorched earth. Solid porter. Good depth for 5%.

--> sehr süffig-leckeres Bier. Ganz leicht wässrig, aber trotzdem toll! --> 13/12/12/13

50cl bottle from Waitrose, Tenterden. Deep mahogany with a chestnut gleam and a ring of cream head; the aroma has rich caramel and some nutty malts; rather thin in the mouth with treacle toffee flavour; and a gently bitter finish.
