This dark brooding winter brew is full of complex tastes such as chocolate and raisins. It has a roast finish and yet is deceptively smooth, making it a most quaffable beer for its strength.

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 25 Nov) Black colour with brown hints, foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dried fruit, raisins and prunes. Roasted, malty taste with blueberries, crowberries and chocolate. Very nice surprise.

Cask gravity at Rare Breeds BF 06. Black with lasting dark beige head. Toasty, roasted malt. Bit like a stout. In fact more of a stout than a porter. Bit of sour liquorice. Very nice, roasted malt. Dry stout. Good bite on end. Some roasted toffee. Dry finish. Quite good choc/coffee but mostly choc.

A red-brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and caramel - and so is the flavor, but the body is thin.

Brown color; thick giant head. Aroma of malt and roasted malt, and yeast. Dry, with a sharp roasted malt character; high ending bitterness, but not hop aromatic.

Very dark brown with rich head. Roasty and fruity nose. Full bodied and sweet. A complex salty and nutty ale with notes of figs. Extremely flavourful for being only 5%.
