It’s all in the name with this iconic amber coloured beer! ’Summat’ being Lancastrian for ’something’ and ’Special,’ because the water from the Lancashire hills are used in the brewing process of this classic IPA with a pronounced bitterness kept in check by hoppy citrus, lemon and floral flavours.

16th April 2010. Clear amber beer. Light dry palate. A little overripe orange and a whisper of sulfur. Finishes dry. Really doesn’t live up to it’s name!

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. An unexciting, rather ordinary, bitter. Straw with a dense cream head; malty aroma; rather lively in the mouth with sweet creamy caramel malts flavour and a dry finish, lacking any real hoppiness.

Cask, handpump at The Penny Black, Bicester, Oxon, 18-04-10 This looks lovely, its amber in colour, bright sparkly, really clean and fresh looking, small white head. A little bitterer than I thought which was welcome, Cascade possibly exerting itself.Good fresh, crisp bite to this, little furry bitterness on roof of mouth. I’m liking this, much better than I was expecting it would be. A6 A5 F7 P4 Ov13 3.5
