Cask at Bir & FUD, Rome on 3rd July 2018. Coppery amber with thick, lasting yellowy-white foam and pattern lacing. Leafy hops and caramel malts in aroma. Very malty in-mouth with caramel and nuttiness - hazelnut. A pleasant malty finish that eschews over-sweetness. Medium bodied with a smooth yet engaging mouthfeel. As a cask ale brewed in Italy, it is a fine job.

10th Dec 2013: Open Baladin (Rome). Large glass from one of the many taps during a mini-lunchtime session while resting from site seeing. Dirty old gold in colour, hazy with a full white head. Fruity and yeasty nose: taste refreshing and also very fruity. The beer as a whole was fine: my first ever ’craft beer’ in Italy. Didn’t really know what to expect. This was well made and interesting, the mixed fruit aromas and flavours were a real surprise (for some reason): a real fruit salad sort of thing. Well carbonated, this suited the beer: it wouldn’t have tasted right in cask form, it needed that ’fizz’ to make it work.
