The King’s Shipment is our take on this 18th century beer style. Its origin is from a time when Britain’s tall ships rules the seas and exotic spices first saw our shores. The beer is a delight for all senses and as you inhale you will be treated to a balanced blend of spicy grass and orange tones to a backdrop of an old oak forest. Our special blend of four different hop varieties and the pale golden colour will undoubtedly seduce you.

Bottle from Halifax Beer Factory, Halifax. Slightly hazed golden-amber with a thin head. Has a steady English fruitiness in both aroma and taste which is mildly spiced. Its strength is not overly evident.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear gold. Filmy, white head. Bitter grass. Some lemon pith. Hint of orange. Spicy, biscuity malts. Taste is toffee sweet, turning grassy, woody bitter. Slick palate. Spiky, full carbonation. Finishes woody bitter.

bottle from Gloucester Service M5. Deep golden colour with white head.Aroma of orange from the hops, and a touch of maltiness. The taste is sweet caramel.

Bottle from Oddbins, Blackheath. Gold pour with a white head. Caramel and pear aroma. Lots of caramel and fruit in the flavour. Quite a dry, sweet finish.

Bottled@SBWF2013. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is big time diacetyl, some slight fruity and floral notes along with some ripe fruits too. Flavour is big time diacetyl, some slight floral and fruity notes along with mild crisp maltiness to it. Too bad the diacetyl is all over the beer. Probably not intentional.

Clear gold beer, tiny white head. Smooth palate, moderate carbonation. Dry. Sweetish malt with a trace of caramel. An okay balance of mild orange hops. Light crisp finish. Pretty drinkable.

[500ml bottle from Millets Farm Shop, Frilford, nr Abingdon that Dad shared with me - cheers!] Light amber, small white head. Good smooth resinous mouthfeel. Sweet, but it’s got just enough earthy, grassy hops to balance (although there’s little bitterness). Nice lasting floral finish. Rather enjoyed this one!

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Amber with a loose cream head and heavy carbonation; light, grassy hop aroma, more reminiscent of German hops than English ones; full and buttery in the mouth with some orange fruit and butterscotch; the finish is woody, lightly bitter and disappointing. This certainly isn’t a modern IPA, and is unlikely to be representative of the original IPA style - I recommend reading "Hops and Glory" by Pete Brown to understand what that may have been like.
