The original Tallgrass beer, Pub Ale was created by founder Jeff Gill during a homebrew session in which he discovered he was missing some of the ingredients needed for a recipe. A new recipe was written on the spot and Pub Ale was born. Pub Ale is a rich, mild and smooth English brown ale, with a lightly sweet, toasty and nutty flavor with hints of caramel and molasses.

The beer was different from anything he or his friends could find on tap or on the shelf. It was a beer that was a deep chestnut color, yet had a great flavor and was so light tasting that it kept you wanting more. The distinctive look and taste of Tallgrass Ale comes from our unique blend of German, English, and American-style malts and a generous helping of both American and traditional English hops. These ingredients, our English brewer’s yeast, and the Flint Hills’ excellent brewing water gives Tallgrass Ale a distinctive, toffee-highlighted taste and smooth profile that is always drinkable.

Shared 16 oz. can. Hazy amber with a cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel, bread and nuts. Taste follows nose. Fairly light-bodied. Quite drinkable and honestly much better than expected though I wouldn’t really categorize as a brown ale.

Dark brown in the glass. Malty and slightly sour in the nose. The beer is very smooth. A bit malty but not too deep in aroma. Nice fresh and smooth. Slightly sweet and easy to drink. Great Pub Ale, just missing the typical Ale Aroma. But great for an US-interpretation if a Pub Ale :) --> 10/12/11/12

16oz can pours a translucent nutty brown with some thin, white head. Nose is really neat, smells very gristy, like wet malt in the mashtun, bread crust, brown sugar, mild toast, barley, some orange. The nose may be simple, but I loved it. Smells like home brewing. Flavor is nice, very approachable, malty, root beer, brown sugar, a hint of vanilla. Clean finish. Call me crazy, but if really enjoyed this.

16oz can Thanks Jake65 Hazy medium down with small light tan head. Nice toasted and toffee aroma and flavors. A little hop kick. More character and complexity than most browns I’ve had. Not bad.

Can. Pours a clear reddish amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of nuttiness and earthy grains with a bit of sweetness. Flavor has dark bread and a touch of grass up front with a nutty finish. A bit thin.
