The original Tallgrass beer, Pub Ale was created by founder Jeff Gill during a homebrew session in which he discovered he was missing some of the ingredients needed for a recipe. A new recipe was written on the spot and Pub Ale was born. Pub Ale is a rich, mild and smooth English brown ale, with a lightly sweet, toasty and nutty flavor with hints of caramel and molasses.
The beer was different from anything he or his friends could find on tap or on the shelf. It was a beer that was a deep chestnut color, yet had a great flavor and was so light tasting that it kept you wanting more. The distinctive look and taste of Tallgrass Ale comes from our unique blend of German, English, and American-style malts and a generous helping of both American and traditional English hops. These ingredients, our English brewer’s yeast, and the Flint Hills’ excellent brewing water gives Tallgrass Ale a distinctive, toffee-highlighted taste and smooth profile that is always drinkable.

Can. Caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, and light hops aroma. Murky dark amber with a small beige head, thin loose lacing. Toasty, nutty, chocolate malt flavor. Medium body, lively carbonation. Nice malty beer.

Can. Chocolate covered raisin and malt aroma. Dark brown with nice tan head. Sweet chocolate and grainy barley malt flavor. Very good.

The pour is mostly clear dark brown under a tall, sticky, off-white head that falls apart rather quickly. Soft cocoa powder and caramel malt aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet, no hop flavor. I expected a little more.

Can: Pours a medium depth brown with a smaller beige head. Carmel and chocolate malts with just a little roast shine through in the nose. Taste is malt-forward with more chocolate and carmel. Light roast and a little nutty. Medium intensity and overall a decent session brew.

Aroma: The nose is fairly malty, some roasted notes, toffee, caramel, and nuts
Appearance: It pours a clear dark caramel-brown color with a foamy beige head
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, malty and medium sweet, no discernible bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, the carbonation is soft, its a touch watery, and the feel is lightly creamy
Overall Impression: This is a pretty unexciting brew overall. It doesn't bring much originality to the table, and there isn't a ton of depth either. Fairly run-of-the-mill. I mean I didn't hate it, but if I was the brewer I don't think I'd be too excited to call this my "flagship beer."

Tall boy can @ home. Talk boy can from Kansas? I should have saved this for our upcoming white trash night. Medium orange-brown appearance with a huge tan head. Nutty, mildly toffee, dark caramel malty nose. Fairly hazelnutty, caramel, toffee malty flavor, almost like a tasty dessert bar. Surprisingly pretty tasty. Sessionable brown ale.

16oz can. Burgundy-brown, looks filtered. Thin off-white head. Sweet toffee aroma, pretty mellow. A really nice, medium bodied brown ale. Sugary toffee tones, some fruity nut tones, and sharp balancing bitterness. A lot of flavor for a beer of it’s moderate strength. Smooth caramel tones. Excellent beer, has a nice English character not found in many American beers.

Can from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours dark amber with a foamy/creamy beige head. Aroma is nutty and hoppy. Med. body/foamy carb. Flavor is smooth red roast caramel with a lot of nuttiness - even hazel nuttiness? Finishes on the mildly sweet side, but there is a nutty bitter tending to balance. Decent drink.

16 ounce can courtesy of phaleslu. Thanks Peter! Pours a dark brownish orange color with a moderate tan creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of nutty notes, leafy hops and a bit of chocolate. The taste is malty with nutty notes, a bit of chocolate and a leafy hop finish. Thin-medium bodied. Good session beer.
