Set forth to become the conqueror of extremely special and rare Spanish brandy barrels that were captured by our crew, El Frogquistador was conceived. It had to be prepared for battle, yet lively and agile enough to conquer all this delicious, complex and memorable goodness.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are fruits, flowers, sugar, alcohol, oranges, malt and hops.

Bottle. A hazy golden colored beer with a small white head. The aroma is boozy, in a nice way, fruity and faintly piney. Some vague notes of peppery licorice, getting much more evident in the mouth. Booze, generic fruityness and some woody notes in the flavor. Full body, warming and semi sweet on the palate, with a decent carbonation level. Lasting boozy and fruity finish. A tad much on the liquor side this one, but it’s a pleasant beer anyway. 170128

Bomber. Pours a mostly clear light copper color with a small white head. A big sugary brandy and grain nose. Similar flavor, straw, big grains, sugary sweet brandy. Not terribly hot but not. The base isn’t big enough for the barrel, maybe they wanted to deviate from all the imperial stouts that they barrel age, but this while pretty good, doesn’t go together easily. Would work well with a barley wine or stout- bigger base. Anyway, nice still.

Sample at the Hoppin’ Frog Tasting Room during the "Rocky Mountain Barrel Aged BORIS The Crusher Oatmeal Imperial Stout Release!" event on 05/07/2016. The beer pours a hazy orange-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates steadily to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, brandy, vanilla and yeast. Medium body with flavors of oaky vanilla, brandy, apples, yeast and malt. The finish is fruity with a brandy and apple-pear aftertaste. A lot going on, but an enjoyable beer all around.
