On tap at Kick. More or less black in the glass, and almost headless. It’s sort of cardboardish on the nose, roasted malts and dried fruits blending in. Medium body with a soft carbonation, sort of dry. Roasted malts, dried fruits and cardboard in the flavor, all lasting for a good while. Sure not my kind of beer. 160123

Bottle. Đ’ark brown with creamy foam. Aroma: coffee and roasted malt, malts, nice and delicious. Taste: caramel malt, a little coffee, biscuit and chocolate.

On tap @ Kick. Good looking dark brown, almost black with a small, lacing tan head. Nice, strong aroma of chocolate, coffee and dark, medium roasted malt. Flavor has lots of chocolate and coffee at the first sip, but then the flavor seems to almost vanish into dusty malt. The coffee becomes a bit harsh and the malt is weak. Strange. Medium to thin bodied and moderate in aftertaste. Nice start, but sadly rather boring after a short while (and I really like both Ducato and Bad Manners).

A dark brown ale with a thick creamy brown head. In aroma, nice smooth chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light coffee grind, musty character, pleasant. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with coffee grind, musty character, light caramel, mocha, very nice for a BB 2011 beer.

Bottle @ Home. Pours very dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, milk chocolate. Flavor is malt, light coffee, toast, caramel, chocolate. Thin to medium body, average to lively carbonation, dry finish. 071214

Claims to be a hybrid of oatmeal stout and porter, made with unmalted barley and oatmeal, apart from actual barley malts. Thin, pale beige, sticky head, very dark wine-red colour, blackish but light still comes through, clear. Aroma of chocolate, coffee powder, pear, leather, fresh thyme, ’speculoos’, caramel, kahlua and some red cabbage. Subdued fruitiness in the taste, caramelly with vague spicy accents (liquorice, nutmeg), slick and somewhat thin mouthfeel, chocolatey, roasted bitterness in the finish but not overpowering, mild grassy hops, dryish and spicy. Not entirely flawless but nevertheless very tasty.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein schwarzes Bier mit schöner bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Schokolade. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, angenehm cremig, schokoladig, erdig.

Dark ruby color, small beige head. Strong aroma of chocolate (from easter eggs), cocoa and some toastyness. Medium bodied, quite active carbonation. Chocolate, dark malts, a bit burned flavor. Dark chocolate in the finish. Very chocolaty, lacks the real coffee flavors of Caffé Barocco version.

Opaque unfiltered brown-black body. Nice respectable beige head. A really pronounced coffee taste. Interesting to see a coffee beer with a Belgian-like effervescence. Smooth and malt centered. Clean, drinkable, very enjoyable. Nice and easy. If you are a coffee beer fan, seek this out.
