A banging imperial stout inspired by the flavours of Italy and brewed with figs, star anise, Sicilian blood oranges and cooked grape must.

Batch 503. Thick with a thin layer of brown foam. Smells sweet and a bit metallic. Really thick mouthfeel. Tastes very sweet, with plenty of fruityness. Star anise is done very subtly, only if you look for it. Grape must and orange adds sweet fruit.

Black pour with a creamy, beige head that lingers. Aroma of red wine, anise, and chocolate. Nice. A second whiff reveals charred, smoky undertones. Taste is mildly sweet up front, almost tart, turning mildly citric and bitter by the end. The aftertaste is of spiced port wine. A real roller coaster but a very nice ride. Body is heavy, slick, and filling with a moderate to mild carbonation. A good one!

Draft. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, anise, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, over ripe fruits, anise, dark chocolate, smoke, and grapes, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Lots of Aromas here, roast, black patent, molasses, licorice, dark malt, and a little funk. Thank God the black patent qualities drop off a lot in the flavors, giving definite sweetness with just enough bitter and carbonation with a hint of dry roast to balance. Alcohol is well hidden, good body and decent finish. Very nice beer.

Like a puzzle, things jumping out at you left and right. Well, I guess puzzles don't do that, but Pojhalas do. Smooth and super complex.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with a rough, brownish head. Sweet roast, vanilla and dark chocolate in the nose. The body is surprisingly not that super thick, and hadn't I been able to read about the added fruits I honestly wouldn't have guessed them. They've seemingly all simply fermented away leaving just booze and little flavors. But the beer is great, although a bit to the sweet side - even for a sugar head like me. 171218

Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles' place. Thanks Stas. Black, tan foam. chocolate, caramel, spiciness, fruitiness, licorice, very sweet, caramel, alcohol, full-bodied. A bit over the top and way too sweet.

At a tasting, thanks, completely opaque black color, smallish quickly dissapearing dark brown head, lots of dried figs, dark bread, chocolate and an ashy whiff, flavor of bittersweet chocolate, chocolate cake, some coffee in the back and whiffs of citrus and ash. Nice but not completely coherent.
