For 2007 the brewers have selected a blend of 7 malts and 7 hops to create our unique annual limited release. When you decide to open this, you will notice a pitch black ale that pours with small brown head. The aroma is full of citrusy and floral notes, not only from the hops added from the boil but also the hops added after fermentation, the dry hop stage. Finally, one taste of this years beer and you will understand why it is so dark, roasted chocolately and malty flavors are abundant from the various dark malts that make up so much of the recipe. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "Its all about extremes!"

From Aug 2008

I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!

Cool looking bottle but it's almost as big a pain in the ass to get to the contents as the Cellar Reserve series from Grand Teton.

I finally got to pour it and it it pours a very dark brown, almost no foam at all and no lacing. I tried reading the bottle but blue writing on a blue bottle makes it too difficult.

The smell is sweetish with a pretty big whiff of caramel malt, some chocolate and coffee and slight notes of...bourbon?

The taste has a strong flavour of coffee and toffee with some chocolate, raisins, and what I think is oak. Tastes like it was bourbon aged or something but I guess it could be just plain alcohol.

The mouthfeel *just* crosses into medium territory and the carbonation is close to be non existant. That's kind of a bummer for me. It finishes with some dark fruity semi sweetness. It's a pretty strong brew but I can't say I get that much warming after the swallow. Interesting brew. Interesting and weird. I think even a low level of carbonation would perk this baby up and make it more drinkable. Still, it *does* have some nice flavours going on....

Bottle at the July DC tasting. Poured a very dark brown color. Aroma was chocolate, roasted malts, caramel notes. Sweet malt character. Chocolate. Boozy notes, though it’s slightly rounded out. Interesting.

Part of an amazing Newport Storm vertical at RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours black. Nose/taste of toffee, molasses, bread, brown sugar and chocolate. Oxidized, but still very drinkable.

I’ve had this bottle in my cellar since last year, today seemed like the day to pop her open. sampled 7/18/2008 Pours a dark brown/black with no head at all. Not sure if the carbonation leaked out of the cork, or if it never had any to begin with. The aroma is intense. Lots of Molasses, chocolate, alcohol, citrus hops, and wine like smells going on here. Taste has a bit of alcohol, chocolates coffee. What I’m really missing is the roasted barley. Mouthfeel is a bit creamy/oily and the body is thick. Overall its not bad, nothing to write home about, but certainly good enough to drink it all down.
