Draft at the brewery taproom during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Pours clear brown with a modest, mostly-white foam head. Very tasty stuff with a rich malt character, including notes of ripe fruits, dates. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Creamy texture. Sugary finish with mild warmth, bread, alcohol, more well-ripened fruits, dried fruits. Quite tasty and nicely executed for the style.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear deep amber with a light brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy grain with a bit of bread and hay. Flavor is similar with an earthy dark grain and a bit of a hay note.

On tap @ French Broad. Pours a burnt orange appearance with a white head. Hazelnut, toffee, caramel aroma. Moderately sweet. Light bitterness. Some earth. Fine.

Pours clear, very dark brown; almost opaque. Quickly dissipating tan head. Sweet malt aroma. The flavor is sweet, caramel and burnt toffee. Some roast malt bitterness. Nice brew.

650mL bottle, pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of light brown sugar, some slight whiskey malts, and caramel malts. Flavour is fairly light, with some slightly sweet caramel malts, some light whiskey malts, and some metallic notes. Fairly light-bodied for a scotch ale, with an inoffensive flavour profile. Decent stuff, but pretty weak.

Enjoyed on tap at Luella’s BBQ in Asheville, NC during my honeymoon. Appearance is a dark cola brown with a thin white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is sweet with a light syrupy malt. Taste is pretty good, nice and malty, sweet, also pretty thick and chewy. Pretty high carbonation, syrupy, its ok.

22oz bomber brought back from Asheville. Just about opaque burgundy-brown. Thinnish soapy head. Smooth, sweet aroma. Pretty much nails the style, this is as good as most authentic versions, if not better. Really not so overbearing for the ABV, quite mellow and sessionable actually. Doughy brown sugar notes. Sweet, but not overly thick or sticky. A great malt-centered beer, worth seeking out.

A red copper ale with a thin lacing light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, light mineral notes, light caramel. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with light dark fruits, light mineral notes, a bit light and tired. Bottle from Asheville, 10 years old.

@Victors Fantasy Tasting-22oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head and copper color. Aroma is medium malt-some sweetness/peat, slight fruit/spice hops. Taste is medium malt-some sweetness/peat, slight fruit/spice hops.

Bottle thanks to Victor at Paul’s tasting. Pours dark brown. Off white head. Nose/taste of bread, caramel and lots of malt. Medium to lightish body. Decent and simple.
