Mahogany color; highly carbonated, therefore huge head initially. The caramel aroma is quite obvious, but the flavor is much better; very rich caramel, sweet, with a pleasant smoke character and traces of roasted nuts. Correct bitterness. Very enjoyable.

dark cloudy brown amber, for a well lagered beer very nice creamy large offwhite to light brown head. aroma of sweet malts, yeast, spices.well blended. a faint sourish or flowery or acid note is a bit disturbing. perhaps from the yeast?. flavor is nutty, sweet malty, spicy bitter (christmas spices?? kardemomme?), faint honey, something resembling licorice. lots of flavor notes and quite well blended. All in all a very successfull old ale as I see it, esp. this being not at all my favorite style. some hops present in the flavor, but hidden well enough that they work just to improve the overall experience without making it decidedly hoppy. Great work. Was worth waiting for!
