The romantic term "barley wine" is used for the beers with an alcoholic content similar to the one of the wine. Of color bronze, the Antares Barley Wine is a hard licorosa beer and maltose, with an intense frutado accent, that remembers white grapes to us, originating of leavenings.

RBESG2008: 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a creamy white head. Light spiced and grainy aroma. Flavour is sweet malty with a light spiced note. Solid alcohol too. Ends spiced and alcohol dense.

12oz bottle-pours a big white head. Color is yellow/gold with effervescence. Aroma is sweet grain/corn?, fake honey, musty fruit. Taste is boozy, grain/husky, some musty fruit, metallic/aspirin. Interesting interpretation.

Bottle. Lager-like aroma with a bit more malt and metallic notes. Sweet malt flavor with a bit of noble hops, caramel, and earth. Medium bodied. Lingering metallic sweet malt. See4ms more like a super-pils (not extra hops, just alcohol). Mouthfeel a bit oily.

Thanks Brent for sharing! Starts bready with a tobacco hoppiness. Some citrus fruit and dusty yeastiness. My companions are proclaiming citric hops and urine! I almost get that, but not quite exactly that. Its a weird and unusual aroma for sure. Light copper color. Big caramel flavors, with some unusual floral notes and a background of grapefruit hops. I’ve never had anything like this and I can’t even say if I liked it or not!

Bottled@10%. Thanks omhper! Amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is hay and raisins along with some bready hints. Flavour is very much alcohol, some grass and mild fruits in a rather unpleasant mix. Unbalanced.

Light amber color, not much head. Ryeish, bready hoppy aroma. Very metallic, light in the body, very alcoholic. Light fruityness. Harsh, unbalanced and too alcoholic. Me no likes, impossible to finish the bottle.

Golden-amber colour with little carbo and less head. Rich aroma is peachy frist and foremost, then showing cane sugar, wildflower honey, phenols hinting at bubblegum and a woody-grassy hop note. Right up front on the palate is the alcohol - the beer is big but lacks refinement as the higher alcohols are all over it from the fuselly start to the peppery dry finish. The malts are big, simple bread & dough. The esters are the peach/pear typical of strong pale brews that aren’t quite ready yet. The way these particular flavours dominate the brew you could pass this off as a top-of-the-line malt liquor.

Bottled. Lightly hazy pale bronze colour, minimal head. Aroma of toffee and cognac. Sweet and caramelly, alcohol is evident as is an interesting pear flavour. Less full bodied than anticipated, rather low on hops. salty almost woody finish. A warming barley wine typical for the Argentinian micros.

A barley wine??? This brewery is stylistically challenged. Deep golden color, grassy, cookies, lemony sour nose. Butter mouth. This is off? or is it? Fully bodied caramel notes, but alcohol is well hidden. Well made homebrew? Extra 2 pts just because of hidding the alcohol so well.
