2nd June 2009
Cloudy dark amber beer with a cream coloured head. Softish palate, semi dry. Creamy malt. Light cinnamon spice. The mellow fig integrates marvelously. Another unique Japanese beer!

Bottle at Butters’ Slutfest: Fig nose. Clear auburn, medium yellow head, good lace. Malt and fig flavor. A bit on the sweet side, not complex, but acceptable.

633 mL bottle from Bruisin Ales in Asheville, opened to celebrate my acquisition of a new car. Rated 5/31/10. Pours a hazy reddish color with a medium sized creamy offwhite head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is nutty and malty with notes of figs, dates, leafy hops, cinnamon and clove. The taste is lightly tart fig and other fruity notes, cinnamon with complements brown sugary malt notes, nutty notes and a citrus and leafy hop finish. Medium-full bodied, smooth and fairly bitter in the finish. Another good effort from a brewery that I’ve enjoyed a lot.

330 ml bottle, vintage 2007, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy brownish orange colour, big and lasting off-white head with a pale orange hue. Fairly strong sweetish aroma with notes of candied fruits (figs, actually), caramel and malts, hints of cinnamon. The flavour has notes of cinnamon and other mild spices, figs, caramel and malts, great sweetness nicely balanced by decent hops in the finish. Some alcoholic warmth, but not dominant. Some wood in the aftertaste. An interesting beer, pleasant to drink.
