Had in Harbin some years back. Watery, corn, rice, little in the way of aroma. Was drank frequently under a tent while smoking a cheap Chinese cigar. Good for memories, not good for imbibing.

Ha! Call it Harbin, brew it in Wuhan. Inspired by the culture of Heilongjiang...yes I can taste the ice and snow sculpture festival right now. I can see it in the dull yellow colour and smell it in the generic eurohop nose. Sweetish, clean with saazy accents and straw malts. Way too much flavour to be inspired by Chinese brewing culture.

600ml bottle. Pours a transparent orange-yellow color. Lots of carbonation bubbles, not unlike a soda. Adjunct laced aroma, pretty unpleasant, I guess that would be the rice. Sugary sweet with some rice character. Not horrible, or as undesirable as the aroma, remains drinkable at least. Hellongjiang isn’t beer country.

This beer is a clear straw color with with a short white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Mild hops aroma with vegetables and malt in the background. Light body with light sweet malt and grassy hops flavors. The finish is mildly bitter hops with a short sweet malt aftertaste. Nothing redeeming about this beer, it makes Tsingtao interesting by comparison.

Clear golden coloured body with a super-thin white head. Aroma of fresh malt and a tiny bit of hops, coupled with a metallic scent. Medium-bodied; Fresh malt in the taste with a little fruity tang and nuttiness. Aftertaste shows a little more complexity with a bit of alcohol, strong malt and good clear low a.a. hops. Overall, not a horrible beer - much cleaner than Tsingtao, with some decent flavours compared to other chinese beers. I sampled this 600 mL wrapped bottle from Ping/Charlie Chiang’s in Arlington (Shirlington) during the 2008 Opening Ceremony to the Olympics on 08.August.2008.
