(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, as Beckator 10.4% abv) Reddish brown colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of caramel, toasted malt, dark fruit and herbal hints. Malty, slightly smokey taste with dark fruit, caramel, toasty malt, hints of smoke and a bittersweet finish. Full body, smooth and rounded mouthfeel with alcohol well hidden. Brilliant balance. Excellent beer.

Draft. A hazy amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel, as well as lighter notes of spices and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread, as well as lighter notes of hops, leading to a bitter finish. The alcohol tickles the tongue.

On tap. RBESG Rome 2010. Slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Very solid caramel in the nose. Solid body, lots of caramel but the beer never gets sweet due to massive amounts of hops - also more hops than in your typical Doppelbock. Very bitter finish. 040610

Gravity at GBBF 2009. Glad I finally get around to enter this, my official Best Surprise of the festival. Golden with a lasting off-white head. Big malt aroma with intense grassy and herbal hops. Rich and malty flavour as one would expect but very hoppy and bitter too. Extremely drinkable for the style.

On tap at GBBF 2009. One of the joys of this festival is getting to try different German beers on tap. Orange haze colour. Lasting beige head. Pretty good. Yes a little heat from alcohol. But it doesn’t go over the top. Never sticky. Good bock. Lovely and drinkable.

Sampled, gravicask, from the German Bar, GBBF 09. Almost clear, golden body, small off-white head. Malty-fruity smell with underlying alcohol heating. Earthy malts in flavour mixed with hints of tart fruits. More alcohol heating to the finish. A bit heavy to drink, but it has got, to be fair, some moments of joy (Earls Court, 07.08.2009).
