Jiarg (pronounce it "Y'arg") is the Manx word for Red in the sense of glowing and burning, which reflects this stunning beer perfectly. It can also refer to the bloodshot colour of eyes. But let's not dwell on overindulgence!
The beer has a rich ruby red colour from the use of crystal malts. There is a spicy citric hop aroma from the Amarillo hops. An initial sweetness leads to a very smooth easy drinking beer which belies its 4.7 ABV.

From cask. Pours hazy amber with a small off white head. Aroma is roasted and malty. Fruity and hoppy. Dark malty and roasted. Fruity and sweet malty flavoured into the finish.

Cask at the Cleveland Arms, London. Pours mostly clear reddish-amber with a lingering, foam head. Caramel malts in the nose. Flavor is sweet and balanced, with more caramel, toasted bread, then followed by mild, earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. The finish is smooth with a pleasing caramel character. Cask at the Metropolitan Bar, JDW - London. Pours deep russet, clear, with a frothy white head. The nose holds dry brown bread and subtle berries. Medium sweet with faint maple, pine, cat pee and brown bread. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Bready malts conclude with light dank citrus. Decent stuff (3.5)

Cask @ GBBF 09, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear medium red amber color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, ´roasted, caramel, fruity, nutty notes, moderate hoppy, orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090806]

Cask at GBBF 2009. Reddish copper, lasting beige head. Sweetish bitter, touch of strawberry fruit. Bit watery in mouth. Faint spritzey finish. Neither a bitter not nor a sweetish red ale. Falls between the 2 stools. OK, if not ery interesting.

Cask@GBBF 2009. Deep amber color, small beige head. Dry woody hoppy nose. Some nuts and caramel, light dry woody hops in the flavor. Sweetish and not very exciting "red".

Cask@GBBF2009. Amber colour, beige head. Aroma is caramel, red fruits, red berries as well as some wooden and mildly nutty notes. Flavour is caramel, fruits, wood, mild notes of raisins as well as some nuttyness. Balanced.

Nitro beige head over a ruby-red body. Smell of grassy hops with notes of grapefruits. Modest flavour of dark fruits sustained by spices and earthy malts. Quite light in the aftertaste, but fine mouthfeel (half, well-kept cask ale at Thomas Rigbys in Liverpool, 04.05.2009).

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Hazy amber with a thin cream head; red fruit aroma; red fruit flavours with a sweet nutty finish. Very straightforward and easy drinking.

(Cask at Crosse Keys JDW, London City, 16 Apr 2009) Chestnut colour with ruby hints. Foamy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of crystal malts and wild berries (raspberries, cowberries). Malty, fruity taste with wild berries and a nice, tangy, citrussy bittermess in a fairly dry finish. Nice one.
