Cask @ Bedford Arms, Bedford. Dark purplish brown with a wispy tan head. Mild liquorice and coffe in the nose. Taste carries a surprisingly fruitiness. Sweetness balanced by a chalky bitterness in the back of the throat. Aftertaste has a jarring bitter/sour note but otherwise ok. An above average mild, enjoyable stuff.

Cask at William Stead (JDW), Darlington. Dark brown-ruby amber colour, foam tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of malt, roasted. Taste is biscuity malt with roasted, fruity & slight chocolate notes and a light bitterness. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Quite OK.

Kings Head, Norwich. Clear dark brown beer. Light white head. Softish semi dry palate. Fair bit of malt with a trace of toffee. Orange in the undertone, drop of ref fruits as well. Finishes dry. Not bitter. Inoffensive.

From cask. Pours deep amber and golden with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and slight fruity. Roasted malty and breadish flavoured. Bitter and dry. Roasted and hoppy. Bitter and yet malty finish. Ends dry and bitter.

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London, 8 Aug 2010) Dark ruby colour with brief, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, dark fruit and prunes. Malty, toasty taste with caramel, dark fruit, raisins and a slightly bittersweet finish. Below medium body, fairly sweet. Nice and tasty.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Dark chestnut brown with a ruby glow and tight cream head; rich malty aroma; smooth malt flavour with a hint of smoke; dry and fruity finish with a touch of pepper. Nice.

Cask-conditioned at the Crosse Keys (JDW), London 14/01/10. Ruby red in colour with a lacy, white head. Slightly sweet, red fruit aroma. Flavour was sickly sweet, with a granulated sugar edge, a trace of butter and vaguely bitter finish. Not for me.
