In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Bottle, 75cl. It settles with a big, coarse, diminishing, off-white head over a hazy, orange body. Lovely citrusy aroma with peach, resin and pepper. Wheat too. Lovely citrusy, peachy flavor with wheat and pale malts as a base. Grassy notes. Pleasant bitterness. Medium to full body, effervescent. Fruity, peachy finish wih some bitterness. Forgot to mention there’s banana all the way. A lovely beer, dangerously easy drinking, almost refreshing. I think I prefer this one over the German edition. 091016

cloudy yellow, smooth white head. aroma is strong. orange, yeast, very faint yellow fruits, but not as cloying as peach. flavor is bitter fruit peel, bitter hops, yeast, brett. sort of a combination of american sour and wheat beer. for me - doesn’t work.

Bottle. Briliant crisp hoppy nose. Cloudy golden, lacing head. Light citrus, a bit phenolic, medium to light body. The Saphire version has a bitmore depth.

Probably the best Hopfen-Weiss that Ive ever had. The combo Schneider/Brooklyn is unmatched for the floral and citrus tase to the yeast and makes this a very enjoyable beer, well done!

Location: 750 ml bottle from Gilly's, 11/12/09

Aroma: The aroma has some among other things: orange, clove, banana, and citrus
Appearance: Cloudy golden-orange color with a nice fluffy white head
Flavor: Taste is a balanced (really well meshed) combination of wheat, fruit, malt and a hop backing
Palate: This one is quite smooth with a solid amount of body and a nice mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This is a pretty darn good beer. I liked this one quite a bit. One of those beers that lives up to its rep for sure. One of the owners of Gilly's gave me a sampling of this one, and I wanted to grab a whole bottle to bring home, but I couldn't pull the trigger on the $19 price tag, if I see this one sometime in the future for a lesser cost, I will certainly be likely to grab one, because it is quite, quite good.

Location: Updating this with a 750 ml bottle, 1/29/10

Overall Impression: Good stuff, I'll up the nose rating, and take the score from a 4.0 to a 4.1. Other then that, not too much to add. Good looking hazy orange beer with a huge fluffy white head. Great nose, and a really nice flavor. Tasty!

Bottle 7 C, 20091028 It was high pressure in that bottle, ater the cork had disappered I put the thing on the table - after 5 sec it started to spurt. No wonder the fermentation (0,5 cm 1/2 a year storage) was mixed in! AR.: yeast, strawberry, apricot AP: weize cloudy, mostly lasting rocky head F: yeast, strawberry, apricot, german äppelmos, medium strong bitterness - long lasting finishing. I can recommend this Weisse, but be careful while opening!
