Brewed in collaboration with our friends at Newbarns Brewery, we made this take on a traditional Scottish ale using a double/reiterated mash. This 17th century brewing technique utilises the runoff wort from one mash, as the liquor for a second. This effectively concentrates the wort, allowing the production of a very strong beer without requiring additional sugars (though we did also add sugars here). We used a historic inspired recipe utilising Chevallier malt along with heritage crystal and No. 2 invert sugar, ingredients typically used in beers of this calibre since the late 1800’s.

CBJ bottleshare. Can thanks to me. Near clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, airy and slightly soft, decent fine carbonation on the back end. Soft rich malts, a nice Chevalier richness. Soft ripe berry fruits, good ripe red berries. Esters and spice on the soft finish. Nice barleywine, has some quad aspects to it. Very drinkable.
