Brewed in celebration of Thwaites’ award-winning Shire Horses. A winning Thoroughbred is the result of breeding the best stallion to the best mare, with the proof of superiority and excellence being established on the race track. Thoroughbred Gold also has the same winning combination derived from the best Maris Otter and Pearl Malts with a blend of Fuggles and Goldings hops to give a well-balanced beer that stays the course right to the finish.

Nice blend of both malts and hops which creates a pleasant soapy bitterness.

500ml bottle from Morrissons. Lovely amber pour. Very clear. Rocky head and no lace. Lovely inviting aroma that promises so much, but this beer fails to deliver true quality. Lacks any kind of distinctive flavour. Poor palate and no real aftertaste. It's refreshing, but this beer lacks that something special that would make me want to buy a second bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle, still 4.0% ABV, best before 12th June 2008, drank mid November 2007. Poured into a Bateman’s pint sleeve glass. It is the same beer once you get into it (I think), might be a few slight changes, but I can’t really tell or comment on any. So I shall review it as if it was my first time. Pale amber colour, the head which started off as a white thick coating soon left leaving a thin scummy, wispy nothingy top. Aroma of hops and a little yeast, malts also, but nothing strong. Nothing offensive in the taste, but nothing worth mentioning either, a bog standard Pale Ale and a long way from being a ’Thoroughbred’ IMHO. I might have had this beer to cold because as it warmed the flavours (fruitiness and hops) started to appear, but it was too little to late. The mouthfeel was watery and thin. Not overly impressed, maybe a cask one would change my mind, but I’ll not be having another bottle be it a ’Thoroughbred’ or a ’Thoroughbred Gold’.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma has notes of elderflowers, hops, and some other flowers. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, elderflowers, and a bit of malt, leading to a bitter finish.
