Draught @ the brewpub. Pours hazy amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, with touches of caramel and hops. Bitter, hoppy onset, quickly replaced by quite sweet notes of caramel malt and yeast. Bitter and estery aftertaste. OK but not what I understand as Dunkel.

(bottle, 33cl, as Küstendunkel, 5.0% abv) Hazy, dark amber colour with a big and slightly tanned foamy head. Slightly ashy malty aroma with doughy notes, traces of caramel and a tinge of metal. Mildly sweet and slightly roasty bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly roasted malty taste with notes of caramel, a shy nutty touch and herbal hops far in the background; the latter getting slightly stronger towards the bitter-sweet finish. Despite its rather weak aroma a drinkable Dunkel. 02.V.14

330ml bottle. Amber colour with huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Grainy, husky aroma, hints of hazelnut. Taste is malty, some caramel and hazelnut, minimally grainy and husky. At the outskirts of its style.

Laff malzig getreidiger Antrunk. Das Bier bleibt muffig, langweilig, kaum malzig. Zum Ende eher milder als intensiver. 10/7/7/7//7

On tap at the brewpub. A hazy, copper colored beer with a good carbonation keeping the finger-thick off-white head stable. Really buttery on the nose, with caramel, fruityness and some citrusy notes. The flavor doesn’t have the same level of butterscotch, in fact it’s bearly detectable. Caramel, fruityness and a pleasant hoppy bitterness too. Smooth on the palate, full-bodied. The finish has some caramel, but the hops dominate. After a while the butterscotch aroma seems to disappear, making me lift that score by one point. Overall, a quite decent beer once it has some time in the glass, or if you’re having a serious cold. 110819
