In 1873 in a small place in Banja Luka, beside the Vrbas grove, a brave little Banja Luka brewery was created by the work of a trappist monk from the Marija Zvijezda monastery. The founder of this small brewery was Franz Pfanner, the leader of the Trappist Order in Banja Luka, who together with other monks, besides the brewery, also established a cheese factory to produce the famous Trappista cheese, as well as one of the first power plants in Europe, adhering to his modest lifestyle and chore "Pray and work" ("Ora et labora").

My first Bosnian beer! Apparently this brewery was started by a Trappist monk 150 years ago but you'd never guess by the taste. Good, though.

Klare gelbe Farbe mit weißer Schaumkrone. Malziger, getreidiger Geruch. Geschmacklich malzig, getreidig, schwach hopfig. Mittlere Süße mit leichter Bitterkeit, leichter bis mittlerer Körper mit spürbarer Kohlensäure.

330ml bottle from Hampstead Food & Drinks. Pale golden colour, foamy white head and aroma of malt, grain, papery. Taste is sweetish malt, corn grain, with cardboard notes and some bitterness. Light bodied, high carbonation, drying papery bitter finish. A standard pale lager.

330ml bottle delivered from Hampstead Food & Wine and drunk at home. Light yellow and clear with a ring of white head. Saccharine, skunks and corny aroma. Ahhh, the trifecta of a bad lager. Sweet taste, with some artificial lemon. Unfortunate dirty character in the finish and aftertaste. Not nice.

330ml bottle from Hampstead Food & Wine. Pours golden yellow, frothy white head. Gently sweet lager malt aroma, continuing to taste. Not bad at all, nicely sweet, light and easy drinking. No off flavours. Fine.
