Barley Wine dates back to before the Napoleonic Wars. Back then, it was considered unpatriotic to drink French wine, the British were forced to find an alternative. The high alcohol content and bitterness combined with caramel, dried fruits and oak give Midtfyns Barley Wine a very well-balanced and unique taste.
Our Barley Wine is the perfect dessert beer and goes well with mild and creamy cheese. It also compliments rich dishes, such as like osso buco and roast pork. Midtfyns Barley Wine can also be used as a marinade to create a fantastic flavored dish to remember!

Malt with some sourness in the nose. A subtle mixture of caramel, peaches, and pears on top of buscuity malt. Very European in that it is rich, sweet and has no evidence of hops. Well crafted but quite one sided.

Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, fudge, raisins, ripe fruits, barley sugar. This Barley Wine is caramel fudge beer incarnate. Flavour is heavy sweetness, loads of caramel and caramelized sugar. Admirable, especially the aroma, but a bit too sweet and sticky for my taste.

0.33 l bottle from 'Trinkgut Knödgen', best before June 2019. Clear, dark reddish amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity aroma of molasses, strawberry jam, candied cherries, raisins, plums and figs. Fairly sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently fruity taste of molasses, strawberry jam, candied cherries, raisins, plums, wet leaves and some vanilla, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, a bit boozy finish. Full body, almost oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Very sweet and simple, nothing spectacular but quite pleasant.

Richtig lecker! 7/4/7/4/12

Bottle. Color: Amber, thin off-white head. Taste: Malty, medium sweet, boozy. Some lightly bitter hints and hints of almond, caramel and brown sugar. Sticky mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, but not one of the top barley wines.
