27/VIII/17 - on tap @ BXL Beer Fest - BB: n/a (2017-1390) Thanks to the (Belgian) RB crew for sharing today's beers!

Clear ruby red beer, no head. Aroma: lots of raspberries, raspberry jam, super fruity, lovely scent! MF: medium to light body. Taste: fruity start, lemony, very sourish, bit metallic, acidic, lots and lots of sour raspberries. Aftertaste: bitter touch, bit metallic, very acidic, lots of sour raspberries. Lovely beer!

The straight ’raw material’ with which the legendary and highly acclaimed 3 Fonteinen Framboos is made; tasted from tap at BXL Beerfest, cheers Werner! Apparently this contains no less than 1000 g of fruit per liter - which, in preparing the bottled Framboos, is reduced to a proportion of about one third that amount, by ’diluting’ it with non-fruited lambic. Very loose and almost instantly dissolving, off-pinkish head due to the manner of tapping - a means of presenting straight lambic to the public in a visibly more ’accessible’ way, like they do in the restaurant in Beersel or at the Lambik-o-Droom; hazy, deep fuchsia robe with beautiful ruby glow. Aroma is unsurprisingly loaded with sweet-and-sour red raspberries, weighing heavily over the young lambic, otherwise releasing impressions of cherry tomatoes, apple peel, yoghurt and sweat with a dash of wet wood. Immensely fruity in the mouth, a ton of red raspberries, sweetish and sourish, with a lemony acidity of the lambic piercing through, almost puckering but still not too harsh; smooth mouthfeel, no carbonation worth mentioning (and none expected anyway, of course). A soapy wheat flavour is noticeable underneath the ongoing stream of actual raspberry fruitiness and lambic-y estery fruitiness, lactic sourness drying the whole, aided by some woody tannins in the end with a touch of leathery and hayish Brett - but it is the raspberries that remain the star of the show here. Ends perfectly dry and utterly quenching. Highly delicious - I need to get my hands on a bottle of that Framboos again now that I come to think of it, it’s been too many years now... If only those damn Yanks weren’t so eager to steal away all our lambics these days. Kidding of course, it is heart warming to see how traditional lambic gets international attention and appreciation now, after having gone through some tough times a couple of decades ago...

From tap. Pours deep red, small white head. Dry and dense raspberry. Dry, slight wooden and dry raspberry finish. Lingering fruity and dry raspberry far finish.

Sampled at BXL. Semi-clear ruby pour with no head. Completely still, with tons of raspberry notes in the arona, and a nice mineral funk, citrus and barnyard.

Tap at BXL festival. Super deep dark reddish pink with no head. Raspberries, light funk, berry pits, hay, soft minerals, light grains. It’s juicy but not as much as I expected. Medium sour and light bitter. Medium bodied with no carbonation.

Draft at BXL Beer Fest, Brussels ’17. Clear red with a small pink head. Aroma of big fresh tart raspberry with a light barnyard funk and citric notes. Flavour is light moderate sour. Medium bodied with very soft carbonation.
