Stout which is dry like stout should be. We made it to taste like the bottled Guinness of old which used to be on every bar, but sadly no longer is.

On gravity at Bristol beer festival, 19/03/10. Jet black with a slight tan head. A very roasty stout, with plenty of black coffee, a grainy edge and big, dry finish. Good.

(Cask at Old Harkers Arms, Chester, 21 July 2009) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee and dark chocolate. Roasted, malty, slightly burnt taste with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, dark rye bread and a touch of liquorice. Generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, dry. Smooth mouthfeel. Excellent stout in lovely balance.

RBESG Sheffield 2009. Handpump at The Star Inn Summer Beer Festival, Huddersfield. Black colour, thick beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, tar, just the way I like it. Flavour is light sweet, coffee, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, coffee bitter finish. A bit watery and flat.
