22 ounce bottle. Labeled as Red Devil Imperial Red Ale; Crown series. Translucent reddish brown color topped by a small bubbly beige head. Aroma of burnt caramel, alcohol and greasy doughnuts. Flavor of more burnt caramel, cocoa and espresso beans. Lot’s of alcohol flavor, to a fault. Some earthy yeast character at play. Hints of charred wood and bitter hops. Strong bitter finish.

Bottle. Pours a reddish amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy hoppy grapefruit aroma. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter grapefruit and piney flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter grapefruit finish.

Another solid but not over-the-top incredible beer from Coronado. I keep waiting for one of their beers to really wow me, but so far, it’s just San Diego-style hops. They do a good job at it, but it’s not all that exciting, at this point. Anyway, this beer pours an amber-ish ruby color - rather dark - with a good reddish tan head. The aroma is bready/toasty caramel malt, booze and fairly sharp, piney hops - some citrus rind in there. The taste starts with some sweetness but quickly gives way to bitter hops. Mouthfeel is a tad harsh - just a bit too much from the booze and hops - but the beer leaves a pleasant citrus/caramel/pine aftertaste. I guess this is an Imperial Red/ASA, but they probably could label it as a barleywine without anyone really noticing anything amiss.

Bottle on 03/20/2010. Clear dark red body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy tan head. Big floral and resiny hop aroma on a caramel and earthy malt background. Caramel, earthy malt, big floral and resiny hops and a fairly bitter finish. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Aroma: A nose of resin, pine, grapefruit, caramel, with some roast and a bit of herbal spice
Appearance: Pours a dark maroon-red color with a thin off-white head that leaves lots of lace
Flavor: It is fairly bitter, has a bit of sweetness as well for balance, it has that CA flavor profile
Palate: This beer has a lot of body, and a really nice mouthfeel, quite dry, particularly in the finish
Overall Impression: This is a really solid beer, kind of a poor man's Yulesmith Winter (not saying that as an insult, I like this one a lot). It works really nicely. A big, bold, hoppy Imperial Red. I'll tell you, the more of then I drink, the more I'm liking this style. A great beer category for IIPA lovers, and really a great beer category for any beer lovers. This is good, and I'd would certainly recommend drinking it.

Bottle 65cl. @ Papsoes blindtasting. [ Bottle #24. ]Unclear dark amber color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, nutty, caramel, moderate hoppy, grapefruit, light to moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090612]

Bottled. An unclear dark amber beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of hops as well as grass and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, grapefruit, and grass, leading to a very bitter finish. The body is on the light side.

From bottle, blind #24. Pours dark orange to brown with a slowly collapsing tan head. Dry wooden and slight abricot hoppy aroma.. Sweet, grapefruity, abricot, apples and sweet peachy. Roasted caramel malt flavoured. Bitter and dry finish.
