Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening.

Can (born 4/25/19) pour from Total Wine & More, Burlington. Appearance is lightly hazy gold-light brown with light sparkle, finger-width white foamy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong (from over a foot away) herbal/spicy--almost ginger--basil, fruity ester, tart fruit. Taste is spicy herbal fruity ester, mild tart. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, an interesting take on a tripel with the lighter body from the rice and the spiciness from the Thai Basil.

Bottle from Antenna America. Basil, lemon, booze, tripel sweetness, grainy. Everything you'd expect from a tripel but something not quite there for me.

Pour is a almost clear dull gold with a large white head. Aroma is triple Belgian yeast ester with some herbal basil in the backround. Flavor is more dry cracker malt with a nice ester, some bubble gum sweetness and again a herbal finish. Not much of a aftertaste but it leaves you ready for the next sip. Decent triple. Lots of yeast esters and there was probable just the right amount of basil, just enough to let you know it's there but it did not get in the way of the base beer.
