On October 13, 2007, at our Brewery Tenth Anniversary Party (Waffles and Puppets) we introduced Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout to the world. Chocolate Indulgence comes with a thick tan head of foam resting on top of the rich onyx-colored liquid. The aroma immediately speaks of dark chocolate and dark malts. The gentle herbal nose of Perle hops compliments the darker notes, making the beer savory to the senses.
The taste continues with the intense Belgian dark chocolate gliding across the tongue; starting sweet up front but giving way to rich cocoa flavors at the back. Through it all, a subtle fruitiness from our special Belgian yeast gives the beer brightness otherwise foreign to a beer style normally associated with gray foggy skies.

750 ml bottle from mgumby10; have another coming from iowaherkeye! Nose of chocolate, and some yeast, along with light sweetness, but mostly chocolate; black with brown edges and a big, glass-lacing, tan head; flavor has a bit of hop bitterness, a light smoky note, and the bigtime chocolate! Finish is chocolate and light hops!

Poured a deep, opaque, slightly watery black with a medium, tight slightly off white head. Smells of dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor was all chocolate, hardly any malt to speak of, with maybe a hint of Belgian Candy or something else lurking behind the chocolate flavor. Fairly silty on the palate with a dry finish. I paired this with a chocolate peanut butter pie I made for my girlfriend’s birthday and it was outrageous. Certainly not a session beer, but a great dessert beer none the less.

750ml bottle courtesy of MrBendo. Pour is black with ruby highlights and a one inch tan head. Head had decent retention. Aroma of cocoa and dark chocolate roasted malt. I also detect some earthy vegetable notes as well. An interesting nose, to be certain. Taste has more of an old coffee taste then the cocoa chocolate. In fact, the chocolate was barely perceptible in the taste. A little bit on the bland side. Palate was pretty thin, certainly not as big as expected. Finish is dry and chalky. This was drinkable, but not terribly exciting. Was more or less a straight forward Dry Stout to me.

Tried this both on draft at GABF 2007 and bottled, thanks to Theis. A dark brown beer with a red shine under a lazing tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of chocolate and roasted malt, the roasted malt also giving it an edge of acidity. The flavor is sweet with notes of cocoa and chocolate, as well as a touch of metal in the bottle which I didn’t detect on draft, leading to a dry roasted and bitter finish, with an acidic note from the roasted malt lingering. I prefer the draft version slightly over the bottled version, differens 0.2.

draft at San Diego Brewing Co. - Pours very dark brown with a thin, tan head that laces nicely. It has a chocolate and roast malt aroma. I’m surprised at all the reviews saying the chocolate is subtle as I thought the flavor was sweet and bursting with chocolate. It has a medium to full body and a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Some mild bitterness comes through in the roast accented finish.
