Old Boss is based on a recipe from the 19th century. At the height of the Temperance Movement, brewery founder William Moorhouse produced much celebrated low strength hop bitters. Old Boss was an award winning brew and Moorhouse’s brewers have revived the brand at a robust full strength. Brewers Gold hops, Maris Otter and Crystal malts ‘deliver a delightfully balanced premium bitter, straw in colour with a hint of citrus and spice’. The traditional pump clip reflects the original bottle label and boasts two awards dating back two centuries.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 18/4/09. Slightly hazy gold in colour with a moderate white head. Summer fruits aroma with some citrus hops. Easy drinking with citrus hops and a decent bitter finish. Good.

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 09. Gold, lasting thin white. I like this, very drinkable English pale ale, right balance of everything.
