A popular, old-fashioned British brew that unfortunately has become a rarity these days, Brown Porter owes its dark hue and name to the use of brown malts, which lend color but also distinctive, delicate notes of coffee and cocoa. Thanks also to its low alcohol content, it’s surprisingly easy to drink for a dark beer.

33cl can via Beer52, drank at home on 11th June 2025. Dark brown body, tanned crown. Nice enough brew, malty for sure with coffee and chocolate to the fore, slightly thin for a Porter, but it's fine for the 3.8% ABV I suppose.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A cola brown pour with a fast fading beige head; aroma of toasted malts; taste of toasted malts with a nice bitterness from the roasting, followed by some thin chocolate syrup; then some hops adding more bitterness to the finish. Perhaps more a mild than a porter.

Dark brown, slightly beige head. Roasted and slightly coffee aroma. Light fruity aftertaste, coffee and cocoa. The body is light, malty, rather dry. Toasted with a slight bitter accompaniment from noble hops. Delicate, sessionable and very drinkable.

330ml can. Darkish brown with beige foam. Aroma of sweet malts with some nuts, chocolate, coffee and dusty hints. Taste also sweet and malt led with a slightly watered down earthiness before cocoa, coffee, mild sour drop and light mint come in with a decent bitterness to make this quite interesting. Body is light to medium but slick enough for the strength.

On tap at de Uiver with the crew. Nem készítettem jegyzeteket, csak pontoztam a sört.

A bit thin but not thin, if that makes sense. Simple notes of toasted dark malts, faint roasted bits, lightly sour, a bit of chocolate, and light earth. Pretty quick finish. The light body and simple, classic porter notes keep this squarely in the easy to drink category. It’s nice.

Bottle (from KSM Kampus, Pori). Deep brown colour with a mediumsized off-white head, which goes into a rather small one quite quickly. Aroma is lactose, toasted, chocolaty and some burnt sugary tones to it. Flavour is chocolate, some lactose, mild tart wood with some slight nutty tones.
