Don’t let Tripel’s light color and delicate aroma fool you, this is one serious beer brewed with maximum effort. First, we introduce freshest barley to crystal filtered water. Second, we add the best hops shipped directly for Europe. Third, our special yeast is the catalyst for fermentation, gobbling sugar and creating alcohol as it works. Some say that the Belgian monks who first brewed this style called it triple to denoted its high alcohol content. Still others believe triple’s origins lay in its triple fermentation; twice in the brewery and once in the bottle. Whatever the answer, ours is the Tripel threat.

Bottle. Surprisingly clear gold body with a bit of a white head and aromas that are bland... maybe some pepper and citrus. Major player in the flavor is the peppery bite with a touch of alcohol and some cloves. A little bit of a garbage water taste to it... not going to win any awards from me.

Bottle from Greenwood Gourmet Grocery in Greenwood, VA near Crozet. Pours light amber with a minimal head and light head retention. Surprisingly clean and dry aroma... some fruitiness. Odd grassy taste leads into a fairly fruity and caramelly taste. An odd creature here, but I like it. I think.

Pours gold into a Tulip. Fluffy white conglomerate head leaves spot lacing as is slowly pancakes. Candi and halertau aromas. Crisp upfront with sweet caramel and sugar. Pepper in the middle with a slightly chalky and sour lasting hop finish.

Pour is a bright golden with a soft white head. Aroma is sweet and spicy but nothing outstanding. Flavor is some spice and yeast with a some what fruity aftertaste. Better than some but not as good as most of its Belgian counterparts.

Big two dollar 22 oz bomber from 3 sons & dogs, Wexford. Has lots of information for the beer geek on the label. Yes, has the aroma of potentially strong ale with sweet fruity candy hints in the smell. Big creamy whitish alabaster head and many streams of carbonation rising within. Beautiful lacing as I drink. Color is slightly hazy light brownish yellow. The flavor impact is that of strong malt liquor. Very strong, slightly syrupy alky impact, this brew lets you know it is strong beer. Although I see tons of bubbles constantly rising, there is very little carbonation on the back of my tongue. Swig after swig the offense will not diminish. Grimbergen Blonde is much more gentle and enjoyable than this. I’m not sure what makes flavors like this so different than that cheap stuff that comes in 32 oz bottles at the local bar. Strong oppressive alcohol and malty. Continuous flow of fusel notes. This brew keeps saying; big beer, big beer. On par with Victory Golden Monkey and Weyerbacher Merry Monks Ale. I am nervous about rating this so low. Any abbey tripel or imperial stout is automatically rated pretty high on this site. I am guessing this is average for its style but I was hoping for something that was a little more well behaved. This style of beer is not to easy for my girlie taste buds to enjoy. Finish lingers for a short period after the last sip. For a tripel, IMO high alcohol should be a little more refined, not just a big buzz blast.

Clear bright orange pour, with no real head to speak of - semi-herbal, fruity aroma of apple, apricot, with some background, grassy hops - quite hoppy and herbal up front, especially for the style - follows with a nearly over-sweet flavor of pear and apple - some slight buttery/oily qualities near the end, but mostly medium-bodied - some alcohol astringency in the finish - not as horrible as some of the more recent ratings suggest, but still not worth a second shot.
