Previously known as Original Lager

A genuine lager brewed to the 16th Century German Purity Law from Lager malt, German hops (tetnang & mittelfruh), yeast and water. This lager is cold fermented and cold conditioned for at least six weeks before serving. As none of our products are filtered and pasteurised, the lager can sometimes have a slight protein haze. This is caused when the natural cereal proteins are chilled below 10 degrees centigrade. This can be removed by force filtering the beer, but this also strips out flavour and goodness - we have therefore decided to offer the Lager as it was originally sold - unadulterated! The lager is dispensed under a low level of carbonation. ’A harvest aroma, soft malt texture, rich dry flavour and clean malt finish’.

Half pint, which I didn’t empty, at the Clockwork brewpub. Near-clear amber-gold, headless. Smell of fruity butter. Strange taste of sour hops and butter-like malts. Oily palate. Far from persuading, to be polite (Glasgow, 12.04.2012).

Cask-conditioned at Clockwork, Glasgow 15/06/10. Pale gold with a slight white head. Sweetish malt aroma with a touch of fruit. Flavour was also sweet to start, with a touch of citrus and slightly sour finish. Not wonderful.

Cask @ Brewpub. Hazy golden-greenish colour, no head. Aroma is sour malty. Flavour is slightly hoppy and malty. Sour finish.

Rerate cask @ Clockwork Brewpub. Nose is rubber. Flavour is rubber, sour vegetables, very bad. Should not be allowed to be served in this condition. -.9

From tap at the brewpub. Pours almost clear and pale yellow with a small white head. Light hoppy aroma. Somewhat apple citric flavoured with a mild cornish note and medium dry bitter hops finish. Quite simple and boring.

Draught at Clockwork, Glasgow. Pale gold, thin white head. Fairly dull aroma, some lemon, malts are thin. The lemon fruit is a little like washing up liquid. Not great.
