This strong yet smooth ale features a combination of German Rauch (smoked) and Scottish Peated malts along with chocolate and crystal malts. The result is a pronounced and intriguing smokiness with a thick malty. Not for the faint of heart!

650ml bottle at Josh. Vintage 2015. Aroma and taste are sour, fruity, smoky. Dry aftertaste. Quite pleasant smoky sour beer. Probably spoiled, but still good.

Darkish brown, big blast of Port Ellen right off the top, and the Weyermann shows up a bit, too. Things that aren’t smoke are decidedly more subdued. Big fat sweet molasses malt, the beech smoke slides in there. Rich, soft, touch of alcohol to let you know its strong. Damn fine beer, at least if you’re a smoke whore.

Bottle thanks to vertbaconstrips and Ferris. Pours very dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of beef jerky, smoke, peat, bacon, ashy chocolate and brisket. Medium body. A bit one dimensional but good.

Very modest dark brown head, very dark velvet-black body. Aroma is heavy smoke, shoe leather, peat, animal hair. Flavour is a heavy barley-peat mix with some citrus notes, orange rind. Dry finish. Not much to look at but it does deliver well in the flavour department - and I’m not a big fan of smoked beers!

Bottle - Smoke, iodine, and roasted malts with some dark fruit. Jet black and thin brown head. Smoky and some chocolate, but seems a bit thin and one dimensional. Not that great.

Black color. Lovely smoke aroma, birch or whatever they use in Bamberg, and some peat for added complexity. Lean body, just mildly sweet, with an excellent malt base, almost no roast (and I like that), huge smoke flavour, a touch of liquorice that I'd like to not feel; the malt is a bit weak in the finish, but there are traces of chocolate. The alcohol is very well hidden.
Wonderful local beer, decent alternative to the unavailable Schlenkerla Urbock.

Dark color, almost black, with small head, frothy fizzy and quick. The aroma is vaguely similar to tempura dip (tentsuyu), some dark caramel and mild smoke. The mouthfeel is leaner than expected for its size; there is a quite strong flavor of dark caramel, nice but moderate smoke, peat, and an impression of tentsuyu; in the final there is some apparent sweetness. The bitterness level is quite low.
The mouthfeel, the fermentation and the head retention should be tuned, but the rest overall is very good.

Poured from a 650mL bottle. Dark brown (almost black) with no head. Sweet smokey, leather, molasses smell. Sweet smoked jerky taste. Thick creamy texture, but with no carbonation. Would I buy it again? Absolutely, but not often (every now and then kind of beer).

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark red/black with an orange tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a blast of peat smoke - with a bit of smoked bacon. Flavors are similar with the addition of roasted malt and brown sugar, but not over the top. Definitely smooth after all the smoke. Warm finish. Nice.
