Beets and grass aroma. Clear copper, thick yellow head, nice lace. Very, very vegetal dried leaves, grass, canned vegetables. Clay finish. Medium body, easy carbonation.
Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7
Deep rich amber and copper coloured body with a relatively nice, two to three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of heavy malts with a lot of caramelised sugars, toffee, nuts, earth, grain and a good hit of yeast and bread, all with a noticeable alcohol and astringency from malts towards the end. Medium-bodied; Quite strong rich malty bite with toasted almonds, grain and both peated malt and malted barley notes evident with a pungent yeast and bready bite and some more assertive alcohol and astringent notes at the very end. Aftertaste is both very rich, in terms of the malt aspect along with quite deep and floral with some light hop flower notes on the sides, but the alcohol and grain flavours are by far the strongest with the toasted malt and light caramelised sugar flavours as well. Overall, a nice and very strong amber ale with a ton of character, especially for the style where you usually get a pass-over beer that has some light malt and water, but this one is packed with flavours, especially malt, nuts and caramelised sugars. Nice to sample, and again, while I really appreciate the series that Three Notch'd has done here, the beer is nice to sample as well. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 13-July-2020 for US$3,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 19-July-2020.
