[Cask handpull at the Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield] Ruby black with a moderate beige head. Chocolate, leather and a hint of smoke; quite dry on the palatte. Easy drinking. Not bad, but flavours are a little muted for a mild; there are much better examples of the style around. c9

Cask handpull at The Wenlock, London. I wasn’t expecting much and I was right. So, so bad aroma, bad in mouth. Didn’t like this at all.

Cask-conditioned at The Hobgoblin, Reading 29/5/08. Reddish-chestnut in colour with no head. Vague aromas of red fruit and cocoa. Very watery mouth feel with malty flavours of chocolate and a short, bitter finish. A strong contender for the least impressive mild sampled in May 2008.

cask at Far from the Madding Crowd, Oxford, 07-10-07 Poured dark brown, little in the way of aroma but some malts. Smooth tasting, some fruits but ultimately a bit thin watery and bland.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading.A rich mahogany colour with a beige head; malty and floral aroma; fruity body with blackberries, plums and raspberries. A slight bitterness, leading to a clean sharp finish, again reminiscnet of raspberries. A excellent example of a mild.
