On tap at St. Augustine's, pours hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma of muted wheat, citrus and light spice. Flavour of spicy wheat, orange peel, citrus and maybe a little coriander. Pretty week and washed out flavour, though drinkable.

12 oz bottle nice malty smell poured a light golden color with some floating yeast. Small white head that dissipated quickly. In the forefront there is malt and the wheat flavor shows up in the finish. Easy light drinker with a subtle aroma and refreshing taste. Simple brew but cleansing to the palate.

Golden yellow with a nice white head with some lingering. Some nice malt on the palate. Aroma is muted. Medium-thin mouthfeel, but you get some bread out of it. A little banana on the palate, but watery. Very little spice.

Bottle I picked up in Maine. Nothing like a beer from CA we don’t have in Idaho but I found it all the way in Maine. Pours out a gold with a light haze topped with a small cream head. Aroma is of light wheat and malt. Taste is more of the wheat and malts. A little bread and a pretty good body.

I had this on draft at the mega Whole Foods in Chicago for American Craft Beer week. Aroma was rich in hops, which is unexpected for a wheat ale. Appearance was golden. Taste wise, definitely the most bitter wheat ale I’ve ever tried. It was very good, gave it a pronounced taste which isn’t seen in many wheat ales.

12 oz. bottle. 75¢ in the loose bottle bin, may be past code. Still, pouring it lets out a bot of lemon and even strawberry whiff, and it’s golden and hazy in my wheat glass, with the proper American Wheat type head. A closer sniff shows some malts that may have gone a phenol, but not badly. Taste has no problems, in fact it’s rather malty, a bit "thick" for the usual wheat ale, with a light bit of wheat spiciness. Nice pinprick carbonation and a touch of ale fruitiness here and there.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a thin head. Fairly poor head retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, nuts, stone fruits. Taste is bread, caramel, yeast, pale malts. Not nearly as bad as the rest of the beer, but still, this is somewhat less than pleasant. Not a very good beer. Medium bodied and strongly carbonated.

An enjoyable and highly drinkable American wheat beer. Blue Star has a good, light wheaty flavor that goes down smoothly. I had this one at North Coast’s taproom. They served it with a slice of lemon, which I’m not a fan of, more’s the pity. Even so, I found this to have relatively good flavor for a wheat beer. There are good grain notes and some citrus. The malt comes through when it’s needed. The beer is bright yellow with some haziness, although it was hard to tell how much that lemon was altering things. It was cold and foggy when I had this beer and that was probably not the optimal setting for such a light, smooth beer.

Tap at Blind Tiger. OK, so maybe I shouldn’t have drank this AFTER the Old Rasputin. About halfway through the glass I started tasting more than just water, and I liked it a lot. I am not terribly familiar with the "wheat ale" style, but anything with wheat in the name I measure against hefeweizens. And this beer was pretty good. Poured the typical hazy orange with a lusty, pure white head. Fruity aroma with a tad of yeast. And the flavor too was crisp, clean, fruity and possessed just a hint of breadiness. Overall, perhaps a little more malt character than I would like in a wheat beer. But definitely an enjoyable drink.

Draft: Strong diacetyl smell that even the lemon on the rim couldn’t cut. Hazy golden, medium white head. Overripe lemon flavor with a excessive carbonation. Grass finish. Rank. Downrated a few times because of my disappointment.
