Sour in the Rye is an American wild ale. A challenging beer to brew due to the substantial amount of rye malt, but you’ll be glad we took the time. The character of the rye asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor, and contributes a full body not generally found in sour beers. Pleasantly sour with notes of tart cherry, rustic earth and vanilla from barrel aging.

Bottle 2015 vintage @ Chmielarnia, Marszalkowska, Warsaw May 2018. Quite clear orange body with a small off-white head. Aroma is acidic fruit, berries, malt, vinegar and wood. Flavor is quite dry, acidic fruit, ripe fruit, mild malt, some vinegar, wood, funk and vinous. Fine body and dry, acidic fruity/vinous aftertaste. Very nice.

Cloudy brown pour, huge beige head. Incredible funky, lactose, fruity Aroma. The sour is strong. Lovely mouth feel, soft carb. The finish is incredibly fruity, especially cherry, and apples, with some woody, earthy barrel. As it warms the sourness gets more pungent and strong. Incredible wild ale.

Bottle from Beerdome, 2016 vintage consumed 02-2018. Super fruity aroma with wood, peach, apricot, soft rye, and a little funk. Flavour is nicely puckering sour with a little sweetness and a dry finish. Body is medium. Such a wonderful fruity Sour, really quite tasty.

Draught@Panema, Helsinki. Hazy yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is green apples, some tart wood and mild rye and some spiciness to it. Flavour is quite much following the same pattern, but also has a somewhat dry finish, almost like tannins.

Bottle, 0.75l. Aroma of barnyard, grape skin, ripe tropical fruit, wood and candy sugar. Pours cloudy amber brown color with totally diminishing off-white head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts tart grainy and vinous, following is citrusy, bready, woody and funky with dry mouthfeel. Medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. Beer catcher in the rye field...
